Jeffory John Hamlett, 74, of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa passed away Saturday May 1st, 2021 peacefully at home of natural causes. He was born February 3, 1947 in Manchester, Iowa to Lee & Florence (Thurn) Hamlett.
He graduated from Waterloo West High in 1965 and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, where he was awarded the purple heart. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years, he served an additional four years in the U.S. Army Reserve. Jeff married Kathryn Sue Brown on September 27,1969 at the famed Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After serving in the military, he worked at John Deere in Waterloo until his retirement in October of 1996. Upon retirement, he and Kathy relocated to Mooresville, North Carolina and eventually moved to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Jeff is survived by his son, Christopher (Naomi) Hamlett of West Des Moines, Iowa; his daughter Kelly (Andy) Engel of Reinbeck, Iowa; three grandchildren, Connor & Cole Engel and Veronica Hamlett; a great grandson, Greyson Andrew Engel; a brother, Randy (Karen) Hamlett; two nephews; and a niece. Jeff was proceeded in death by his parents and his wife, Kathy.
Jeff collected Pepsi paraphernalia, had a well-decorated garage, and very clean home. He was big fan of auto racing, Iowa Hawkeye basketball, and mystery novels. He enjoyed spending his time reading by the pool.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
