James Daniel Lenertz, 77, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away on January 10, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jim was born on February 22 in Karlsruhe, North Dakota, to Anton and Julia Lenertz, who preceded him in death. He was the eldest of nine siblings and grew up on the family farm in North Dakota—a time he often spoke of with pride and fond memories.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Linda Lenertz. He also leaves behind his sons: Bryan Lenertz and his wife Jessica, and their two sons, Grayson and Kash Lenertz; Greg Lenertz and his wife Mary Beth, and their four daughters, McKenna, Brooke, Alexandra, and Emerson Lenertz; and Michael DeVaughan and his two sons, Isaiah and Noah DeVaughan.
He is also survived by his siblings, in birth order: Marie Sears, Kathy Neuman, Sandy Lenertz, Roger Lenertz, Ginny Wynne, Chuck Lenertz, and Kristi Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sibling, Terry Lenertz.
Jim had a long and accomplished career as an engineer, contributing to remarkable projects throughout his life. His work included projects with NASA as well as helping design and build federal prisons across the United States. He took great pride in his profession and the lasting impact of his work.
Outside of his career, Jim loved to travel, especially with his wife, Linda. Some of his favorite destinations were Italy, Egypt, and Germany, where his family heritage began. He also deeply enjoyed motorcycle trips with his brothers, Terry and Roger, treasuring the adventures they shared. Jim cherished telling stories about his upbringing on the North Dakota farm, reflecting on the values of hard work, resilience, and perseverance that shaped his life.
Jim will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy lives on through the family he loved and the stories he shared.
