James Douglas Turlington Jr.

James Douglas Turlington, Jr. currently residing in Myrtle Beach SC, passed away Thursday, Nov 16, 2023. James, or Jim to most that knew him was 78 years old and passed peacefully after a long battle with cancer.

Jim was born March 17, 1945, in Bethesda, MD. He was the son of the late James Douglas Sr. and Mamie Spurlock Turlington.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judith Watson Turlington, his daughter Amberly Green and son-in-law Brian Green, granddaughters Aiyanna Leigh and Briella Lynn Green, grandson Brixton Green, brothers Andrew and Arthur Turlington, sister Janet Carpenter, nephews Andrew Turlington and Lemuel Carpenter, and niece Melissa Carpenter.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy in the 1960s and then worked as a programmer and multiple banking institutions. He retired from Navy Federal Credit Union in Northern Virginia, and then moved with his family to the Myrtle Beach, SC area in 2017. Following retirement he played golf 2-3 times per week, loved boating, took many cruises with his family, was a devoted Redskins fan, Corvette Enthusiast, and enjoyed watching his grandkids compete in all their sporting events over the years.

Jim and Judy married three months after they first met, lasting 45 wonderful years. Over the years they purchased 7 new homes. Growing up in St. Mary’s County Maryland, the family spent many happy weeks and weekends at the family’s river house on Indigo Creek and continued the love of the water also living in Virgina Beach, VA and eventually Myrtle Beach, SC. Jim loved having the large family growing up, spending time with his numerous siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.

Jim and Judy’s only child Amberly is their pride and joy. They were very devoted in their daughter’s raising and after retirement Jim volunteered to care for his grandkids whenever he was available. They are overjoyed and very proud of their daughter and grandkids and all they have accomplished with their oldest grandchild starting college in the fall and others currently in high and middle school.

Jim served on various homeowner’s association boards, was a member of the corvette club, and loved supporting his community through various charities and community service.

Funeral services are to be held at McMillan-Small Funeral Home & Crematory at 910 67th Ave N, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29579; on: Saturday, November 25th, 2023, at 11:00 am.
