James Flyzik

James Flyzik, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Myrtle Beach, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, surrounded by love with his wife and daughter at his side.

Born on July 27, 1953, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Flyzik. He was raised in Lansdale and later pursued a distinguished academic and professional career in Washington, DC.

Jim earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a minor in Computer Science and an MBA from the University of Maryland with an area of concentration in Information Systems Management. 

Throughout his accomplished career, Jim worked for the Secret Service, Treasury and the White House Office of Homeland Security. He finished out his career owning The Flyzik Group with his wife. On weekends and evenings, Jim taught Cyber Security at the Graduate level at UMUC for 18 years. He received the Stanley J. Drazek Excellence in Teaching Award in 1998 by the University of Maryland. He was inducted into the CIO Magazine Hall of Fame on October 29, 2007 and was the first career government CIO to be selected.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was passionate about music, especially the Grateful Dead, golf, and Philly sports. But his true devotion was spending time with his family. He enjoyed hunting with his brother, family trips to Disney World, endless sporting events with his kids and grandkids, and traveling the world with his beautiful wife. He also had a lifelong love of animals, especially dogs. His beloved labs, Cassidy and Casey Jones, most certainly gave him doggie kisses to welcome him as he entered Heaven.

Jim is survived by his wife, Candace Flyzik, his sisters, Joanne Cairns and Marie Nestor (Mike), his brother Joe Flyzik (Chris), his children Kim Harrington, Jami Fano (Chris), Danielle Naman (Joe), Matthew Flyzik (Amy), his grandchildren, Jack, Aiden, Chase, Liam, Dominic, Madison, Laini, Jameson, and Chloe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim will forever be remembered for his intellect, dedication, kindness, love of music and sports, and unwavering compassion for family. He will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life to honor his life and legacy will be held at the Tower Club 8000 Towers Crescent Drive, Suite 1700, Vienna, VA 22182 on Friday, June 19, 2026 from 3-6pm. Remarks to begin at 4:30pm.

An additional Celebration of Life will be held in his hometown, Lansdale, Pennsylvania at Cannoneers Sportsman Club 501 West 5th Street, Lansdale, PA 19446 on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 3-6pm.
