James W. "Pete" Apple, Sr., 94, of Myrtle Beach, passed away November 15, 2022 in Myrtle Beach.  Born in Reidsville, NC, he was a son of the late Willard B. Apple, Sr. and Lorraine (Delancey) Apple.

Pete was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a native of Reidsville, NC but lived in his adopted hometown of Huntsville, AL for over 65 years before moving to Myrtle Beach, SC.

After attending Lees-McRae College and North Carolina State University, Pete served as an officer in the United States Army before beginning a life-long career in the defense industry, first at McDonald Douglas Corporation, later at Nichols Research then ending his career as co-founder of Victory Solutions, Inc.

Pete loved Huntsville and was a board member or supporter of many Huntsville organizations including the Rotary Club, Alabama Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville Botanical Gardens, Huntsville Chamber of Commerce, Huntsville Museum of Art, and the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum. He was an active member of First Baptist Church working with many church groups and serving as a Deacon.

Pete’s passions were golf with his friends at Valley Hills Country Club, offshore fishing, and spending time at his beach house in Holden Beach, NC.

Pete was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Everleigh Apple. He is survived by his son Jim and daughter-in-law Denise, grandchildren Henry, Everleigh, and Charlie, all of Charleston, SC as well as his brother, W.B. Apple, Jr. of Reidsville, NC, sister-in-law Fran Everleigh of Newport News, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

A family burial service will be held in Reidsville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Huntsville Botanical Garden https://hsvbg.org/donate/ or the EarlyWorks Children’s Museum of Huntsville https://sales.earlyworks.com/Donation.aspx?C=GFM.
