Jacquelyn Smith, 95, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina passed away on January 7, 2021 with her family at her side. She was born to the late Earl and Marie Sowers, December 17, 1925 in Richmond, Virginia. She married the late Charles William Smith in 1945. They resided in both Richmond and Huntington, West Virginia, before retiring from CSX Railroad and settling in Myrtle Beach more than forty years ago.
Jacquelyn is survived by her two daughters: Pamela S. Chandler and her husband Michael of Cincinnati, Ohio and Karen S. Adams and her husband Dennis of Jarratt, VIrginia. Her greatest legacy was her love of her family. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Stephanie, Timothy, Gregory, Kevin, and Justin, and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, all of whom loved and adored their Mimi. Jacquelyn was predeceased by her loving husband of more than sixty years in 2005.
Jacquelyn was active in her retirement years volunteering, along with her husband, as a tutor at Myrtle Beach Elementary, and with Meals on Wheels of Horry County, and the Horry County Shelter Home for Abused Children. Among her passions was her many years of membership and participation in the Ladies Golf League at the Myrtlewood Golf Club. She especially enjoyed the friendly competition with her golfing buddies and the lasting friendships that brought her joy and comfort in her latter years.
The family regrets that, due to the pandemic, the funeral service will be private, with plans for a “Celebration of Her Life” at a later date. Friends and family are encouraged to make donations to their charity of choice, in lieu of flowers.
