Idelle Wharmby Obituary

Idelle Wharmby, born Eidel Esther Weiss, died Monday, May 24, 2021 at 84 years of age, after a brief illness. Born June 20, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Harry and Minnie (Aufseher) Weiss.

She was a graduate of Lafayette High School in Brooklyn in 1954. She moved to Myrtle Beach in August 1993 where she continued her loves of piano and Mahjong.

Survivors include daughters, Ellen B. Wharmby and Barbara A. (Tommy) Vane; grandsons, John (Johanna) Fermo, III and Richard Grayson Vane; great granddaughter, Juliette Belen Fermo; and grandpets, Chewey, Luna, GusGus, & Suzy. Also left to cherish her memory are her longtime friends, Norma, Rene, Myrna, Terry, & her close friend and long-time Mahjong opponent, Estie Gritmon of Little River. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard A. Wharmby; and sister, Bernice Weiss Becker.

The family will gather at McMillan-Small Funeral Home on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with a service at 12:30 PM. Burial will be held at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY at a later date.
