Hanne Mortensen Hancock, age 88, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and previously of Charlotte, NC, died January 7, 2026. She was born September 5, 1937, in Randers, Denmark, to Else and Egon Mortensen.
Hanne worked at Belk in Raleigh as an area sales manager for over 20 years, making many dear friends and working every Black Friday. She was deeply involved in her community, volunteering extensively, most recently at the Ivey Memory Wellness Center in Charlotte, where her late husband, Frank, received warm and compassionate care. She called many places home throughout her life, always taking an active role within her community and joyfully making new friends. Her vivacious spirit and kind heart will be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Kelly Hancock, Helen Lazarus (Mark), and Yohanne Granelli (Chris); her grandchildren, Tasha Tyner, Erik Rios-Wentzky, Hanne Goodwin, Tori DeVita, Caroline Hancock, Thomas Hancock, Christina Watts, Jordan Heyd, Jacob Lazarus, McRay Granelli, and Becket Granelli; and eight great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank McRay Hancock; her daughter, Yane Hancock Wentzky; her parents, Else and Egon Mortensen; and her sister, Yane Mortensen Hunter.
A private celebration of life was held January 16, 2026. The family would be grateful for donations made in memorial to The Ivey Brain Health & Memory Wellness Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Donations may be made online at theivey.com.
