In loving Memory of Gary Alan Pennington, 63, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 23, 1961, Gary was a devoted husband, brother, father, and Pap-Pap whose greatest joy was the time he spent with his cherished family. Gary was married to Lisa Pennington, his best friend and partner in life for 30 years. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. As a proud father to John Riordan (Skylar) and Kristina Spivey (Chris) and doting Pap-Pap to John and Luke Riordan, Shawn Johnson and Christopher Spivey, he was the heart of his family, always offering wisdom, guidance, and unconditional support.
A highly skilled and respected head mechanic at Myrtle Beach Bowl, Gary was a hardworking man who loved the challenge of fixing most anything. His expertise was sought by many in the community and throughout the country. You would be hard pressed to find a more knowledgeable person in his field than Gary. He also spent several years traveling the country installing equipment for Quibca AMF.
Beyond his work, Gary had a passion for football. He was a die hard St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams fan. The passion he had for his team and the game of football was contagious. He had a hand in creating many Rams fans within his family. It was a joy to watch him share this love with his family, especially during game-day traditions that will live on in his memory.
Gary will be remembered for his hard-working spirit, kind heart, and the countless lives he touched with his generosity and friendship. He deeply loved his family and cherished every moment and memory made with them. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and laughter that will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Pennington; his children, Kristina Spivey (Chris) and John Riordan III (Skylar); his grandchildren, Shawn Johnson, Christopher Spivey, John Riordan IV and Luke Riordan; his siblings Linda Bullard (Bill), Herbert Pennington (Audrey), Deborah Robinson, Wanda Pennington, and Anne Brittain; also numerous brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
