Garrett Campbell Brown, age 93, passed away on April 4, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Garrett was born on November 7, 1932, in Nassau County, Florida. At the age of five, his family moved to Socastee, South Carolina, where he was raised. He was a graduate of Socastee High School. He was affectionately called “Podder” by those who loved him most — a name that will forever echo in our hearts.
He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Brown, on June 17, 1950, and together they built a life centered around faith, family, hard work, and devotion. They raised three children: Deedy, Gary, and Michelle.
From 1963 to 1980, Garrett and Betty owned and operated two family motels in Myrtle Beach, the Sea Foam and the Oceanic, where they created lasting memories for both their family and countless guests.
Garrett’s claim to fame was being an honest, ethical car salesman in Conway and Myrtle Beach for over 50 years. He took great pride in the way he conducted himself and in the reputation he built. He had an incredible memory for people and the many cars he sold over the years, and it brought him great joy later in life to share those stories and remember the lives he had touched.
Garrett never met a stranger. He always had a joke ready and truly loved making people laugh, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. His greatest joy was caring for and loving his family. That was where his heart always was.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Flora Brown; his beloved wife, Betty Brown; his stepsister, Libby Peinovich; and his nephew, Randy Mishoe.
He is survived by his children, Deedy (Richard), Gary (Debbie), and Michelle (Heidi); his grandchildren, Richie (Lixia), Meredith (Greg), Grayson, and Joseph (Annah Kate); 14 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Annette.
A viewing will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, with burial to follow at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens in North Myrtle Beach.
