Fredis Fore Obituary

Fredis Cleon Fore, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday November 13, 2020. Born on September 21, 1930 to the late Pattie (Hutchinson) and Rufus Fred Fore. Fred also known as "Bud" was born and raised on his family’s farm outside of Mullins, SC. He was predeceased by three of his siblings, Sam Dewey Fore, Louise Fore Foy, and Willie Mae Fore Carroll. 

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn "Murph" Fore and daughters Madge Lee Moyd and her husband David and Lori Elizabeth Fore. Along with 4 grandchildren; Kelly Davis Moyd, Benton Lee Moyd, Hunter Francis Moyd, and Thomas Grayson Moyd.

Dr. Fore attended Mullins High School, then graduated from Clemson Agriculture College with a BS and MS degree. Fred was a proud veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and was dedicated for over 38 years to the United States Army and Reserves. In addition to the military, he acted as the deputy commissioner of agriculture under Commissioner Bill Harrelson. After that he joined Governor Ernest “Fritz” Hollings’ staff to assist with economic and workforce development. As a result, of initiatives to boost manpower training at the time, the first technical education institutions were born. With his robust negotiation skills and inherent knowledge of the area, Fore was able to acquire the property that would become the grounds for Florence-Darlington Technical College. Fore went on to become the first president of Florence-Darlington Tech and served as its president for 25 years. Dr. Fore received the Order of the Palmetto in 1987. The highest civilian award granted by the State of South Carolina, it was bestowed by Governor Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. In addition, Francis Marion College distinguished him with an honorary doctor of Humanities degree. Dr. Fore was venerated by the Mullins Chamber of Commerce and was presented with a key to the city. On Monday, February 6, 2017 was declared as Fred Fore Day in honor for his years of service. Fred was a founding member of the Wahee Gun Club in Marion, SC and was also a Mason for part of his life. 

The family will receive friends from 3:30-5:30 PM on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Inlet Affairs, 4024 Hwy. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC. 

A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Belin United Methodist Church, 4182 Hwy. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, SC. Following the service, the family will greet friends in the Garden of the Cross in front of the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of his deceased brother-in-law, Douglas Murphy Student Scholarship Fund, HGTC Foundation, 743 Hemlock Ave., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.
