Florence Robinson Glasgow Vaught passed away early in the morning on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in Conway, SC.
She was born on May 17, 1927, in Columbia, SC to the late Estelle Chance Parker and William Lee Robinson. She lived in Georgia until 1942, then she moved to Conway, SC and graduated from Conway High School. She also graduated from Queens College in Charlotte, NC and received a masters degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
She married Tom Glasgow, Jr. in 1949, and together they raised a daughter, Lee. Tom passed away in 1994. In 1997, Florence married Lt. General James B. Vaught and moved back to Conway. Jim passed away in 2013.
In Charlotte, Florence was a co-founder of Children’s House, a counseling practice working with children and their parents. She was a member of the Charlotte Junior League and a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
In Conway, she was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Horry County Museum and served as a chairman. She was also a volunteer with Mercy Care Hospice.
In addition to both of her husbands, Tommy and Jim, she was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Lee Robinson.
She is survived by her daughter, Lee Glasgow Watson; stepdaughters, Cathy Vaught, Marion (Steve) Wilson; and her stepsons, Ben (Julia) Vaught and Stephen Vaught; grandchildren, William Thomas (Megan) Watson, Jonathan Theodore (Claudia) Watson, Ellen Glasgow Watson, Anna (Lauren) McClure-Smart, Bryan Vaught, Megan (Saj) Rambob, and Julianna Vaught; great grandchildren, Jada Walker, Kamryn McClinton, Walker Watson, Zarah and Amara Rambob, Diane, Paul, Josh, and Daniel Vaught; nieces, Claudia (Pete) Kornack, Kathryn (Roger) Sherard, Carol Wiens, Lucy (David) Williams; and nephews, Hugh (Jan) White, Bo, Tommy (Janne), and Richard Dean, Rick (Norma) Glasgow, and Winston (Lisa) Goode. She also wanted to recognize her neighbors, friends, and church community for their constant love and support.
A memorial service will be held at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 2104 N. Main Street, Conway, SC 29526, at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
