Evangelos “Angelo” N. Kaltsounis of Little River, SC passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on March 9, 2026 after a brief illness.
Angelo was born in Greece on March 20, 1939. He met his wife of 60 years, Anthoula, and were married 1966 in Athens, Greece before emigrating to the United States in search of a better life. They settled in Asheville, NC where they had three children before moving to Little River, SC. Angelo was proud of his heritage and continued to be involved in Greek culture, including a membership with the Greek organization AHEPA and St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. He ran a restaurant with his brother in Myrtle Beach, SC and after many years of hard work Angelo retired in 2007. He was also proudly known as “Papou” and enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren and giving out the best hugs.
Angelo is survived by his wife, Anthoula from Little River of 60 years; Daughter Frances Mathes and husband Tom from Cary, NC; Sons Nick and wife Dody from Loris, SC and Jimi from North Myrtle Beach SC; Grandchildren Nickolas, Catherine, and Michael; Siblings George, Jimmy, and Lambrine. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and fellow community.
Angelo will be laid to rest on March 12, 2026. The family will be receiving family and friends starting at 10:15am followed by the Trisagion at 10:30am. Funeral will follow at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church at 3301 N. 33rd Ave. Ext, Myrtle beach, SC 29577. The burial will follow immediately after the service at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens located at 5000 US-17, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.
