It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Elton Thomas Fulmer, known to most as "Tom," who died peacefully at the age of 77 on November 18, 2024. Tom was born September 19, 1947, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Elton C. Fulmer and Annie Ruth Fulmer, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Loretta M. Fulmer, and his two daughters, Christine E. Grego (Chance), and Emily A. Fulmer, who brought him immense pride and joy, and two grandsons, Collin Grego and Connor Grego.
A graduate of Williston-Elko High School (Class of 1965), Tom was a talented athlete, lettering in football, basketball, and golf. He attended Clemson University, where he became a member of Sigma Alpha Zeta local fraternity, and was a founding member of Pi Kappa Alpha Eta Chapter. And, as Tom put it, finally graduated with BS in Economics in 1970. He served 6 years in the National Guard.
He began his career at First Palmetto Bank in Columbia, South Carolina, which became the first in the state to be sold to an out-of-state institution in 1983. He rose to the position of Senior Vice President and served as a member of the Bank's Board. His expertise led to invitations to serve on several other financial and business boards.
In 1983, Tom turned his attention to real estate development in North Myrtle Beach, where he led the development of Ocean Towers Condominiums and a golf course interest in Little River, SC. He settled into the real estate and vacation rental business, beginning in 1985 through 2020.
Beyond his professional achievements, Tom was an active member of his community. He was involved with the first NMB Accommodation Tax Committee, member of the first NMB Chamber of Commerce's Advertising Committee and contributed his time to the Myrtle Beach Chamber's NMB Advisory Committee. He was a supporter of Risen Christ Lutheran Church and School, and a long-time member of the Surf Club Board, serving two terms as President. Additionally, Tom served as President of multiple homeowners' associations, always working to improve the lives of his neighbors and friends.
Tom outran his coverage and married his only partner and love of his life, Loretta, in October 1987 and thus had two wonderful daughters, Christine and Emily.
Visitation to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at McMillan-Small Funeral Home on Thursday, November 21, 2024, from 4 PM to 6 PM. Service will be at 11 AM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens in the on-site chapel. [Convenient parking located in Barefoot Landing on White Pt Lp, behind the Garden’s chapel. Walkthrough in bushes.] In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Risen Christ Lutheran Church, 10595 North Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
Tom’s memory will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched over the years. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a loyal friend, and he will be deeply missed.
“He loved his family, he loved his friends, and he gave his all to those around him. He leaves us with a legacy of kindness, generosity, and love.”
