Elizabeth “Lib” Benton Cox, 93, died on September 29, 2026.
She was born March 25, 1933, in Myrtle Beach inside the Ocean Forest Hotel, where her parents, Everett Horry Benton and Lucille B. Benton, were employed. It is impossible to encapsulate her life of 93 years in the few words an obituary allows. Her early adult years were marked by her close connection with family and their work in the motel business. Later, she and her husband, Wilburn Esters Cox, owned and managed the rental properties throughout the Grand Strand.
Lib was a woman of steady faith and amazing creativity, and our memories, hearts, and homes are filled with the lasting evidence of both. She will be deeply missed. Our hearts are eternally grateful for the gift of her long and full life with us. Lib was predeceased by her two husbands, William Earl Williams and Wilburn Esters Cox; two daughters, Pam Williams and Janet Poston; and her brother, Bobby Benton.
She is survived by her two sons, Kim E. Williams and Jan E. Williams; stepdaughters, Linda Purvis, Susan Craven, and Debbie Mixon; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, with her son, Kim E. Williams, officiating. Burial will follow at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 9:45 AM until 10:50 AM, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville, SC.
