Eileen Roth Abrams

It is with hearts full of love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen Roth Abrams, a woman whose warmth, humor, and boundless spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Born on May 26, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, to Sam Roth and Esther Spring Roth, Eileen carried the vibrancy of her roots with her throughout a life beautifully and fully lived. She passed peacefully on June 26, 2026 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Eileen made Myrtle Beach, South Carolina her home for nearly all of her adult life, and in doing so, she made that community immeasurably richer. She was a woman who never stopped growing. While raising her two sons, she returned to school with characteristic determination and earned both an undergraduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Education from Coastal Carolina University. This was fulfilling a promise to her parents that she would finish college after she married Sam in her sophomore year at the University of Georgia.

Alongside her devoted husband Sam, Eileen poured herself into Abrams Department Store in Conway, South Carolina, the family business where she served as a co-manager. It was there — as in every room she ever entered — that her leadership, her laugh, and her genuine care for people left an indelible mark. Her sons worked beside her, and those years together were a gift the whole family treasured.

Eileen was, above all else, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her greatest masterpiece — though her art came in many forms. An accomplished and passionate artist, Eileen's works hang proudly in the family home, each piece a reflection of a woman who saw beauty everywhere and was determined to share it with the world. She brought that same creative soul to her beloved Mahjong games, which she enjoyed with dear friends for many years.

And the laughter — oh, the laughter. Eileen was renowned for her quick wit and her gift for humor that could light up any room. She was a mother not just to Mark and Scott, but to every friend they ever brought through the door. Young people gravitated toward her because she listened, she teased, she fed, and she loved without condition. She also, it must be noted by all who knew her, had an uncanny and much-celebrated ability to control the weather.

Her faith and her community were pillars of her life. As a dedicated member of Temple Emanu-El, Eileen gave generously of her time and spirit, embodying the Jewish values of kindness, community, and tikkun olam — the repair of the world — in everything she did.

Eileen is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Sam Abrams; her sons, Dr. Mark Abrams (Scarlett), and Scott Abrams (Shari); and her grandchildren (Jack, Chloe, Colin and Penelope), who were the lights of her life. She is also survived by a community of extended family and friends who will miss her more than words can say. A special thanks to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House that treated her like a queen over the last 8 months.
