Obituary

Edward William Jerdon, 96, of Myrtle Beach S.C., surrounded by his loving children, died peacefully on June 11, 2025.  Jerdon was born March 12, 1929 in Collingswood, N.J. to Marcella Glen Jerdon and Edward Walter Jerdon. After graduating from Lincoln Preparatory School, Jerdon served for two years in the US Army.  While stationed in Charlotte, N.C., Jerdon met and married the late Joan Hines Jerdon, mother of his four daughters.

In 1955, Jerdon and his young family moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C., where he established a custom cabinet making business, which quickly grew into the E. W. Jerdon Construction Company, which he operated for over 30 years.

In 1966, Jerdon and his partners founded Seagull Golf Club in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina. Jerdon, realizing the potential of Golf in S.C., went on to partner in six other golf courses.  Finally, he and his partners founded the Classic Golf Group, a golf management company.

Jerdon served as president of the Dunes Club, Surf Club, Burning Ridge Golf Corporation and the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame. Jerdon was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019.

Jerdon served on many boards, in Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas, including National Bank of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina University foundation, Queens College, Presbyterian College and Ocean View Memorial Hospital.

An avid Blue Devil football and basketball fan, Jerdon was an Iron Duke for over 60 years.

Surviving Jerdon are his four daughters, Georgia Jerdon, Lee Jerdon, Jo J. Hurley (Brad) and Dixie J. Singer (Alec), grandsons Theron and Rand Singer, longtime partner and dear friend A.J. Montgomery, sister Joan Quin, nieces Kathleen Quin, Carolyn Hines Morris and Stacey Hines Fitch, and cousins, Jimmy Jerdon Jr. (Barbara), Jim Jerdon III and Chris Jerdon. In addition to his parents, Jerdon was preceded in death by Joan Hines Jerdon, George Jerdon and Mary Jerdon. Funeral service will be held at McMillan Small Funeral Home June 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, the graveside commitment will take place at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens in North Myrtle Beach.
