With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dr. Fred Paul Norman, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the Myrtle Beach community. Dr. Norman passed away on March 22nd, 2025 at 79 years old, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, faith, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. Fred was born in Dayton, Ohio on March 7th, 1946 to George Irving and Olga Marie Norman. Dr. Norman is preceded in death by his brothers George Jr and Danny, and sisters Della Ann Blackburn and Olga Marie Hill. He is survived by his loving wife, Nan Norman, daughters Tosca Norman Taylor, Olga Thorn and Courtney Ivey, sons-in-law, Brad Taylor and Tyler Thorn, and grandchildren Reef, Koa, Sloane, Lyndie, and Gia.
A man of deep conviction and grace, Dr. Norman lived his life guided by his faith in God. He found strength in the Lord and shared that strength with others, offering wisdom, compassion, and encouragement to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His impact extended far beyond his profession—he was a mentor, a cherished friend, and a die hard Clemson fan whose presence enriched the lives of so many.
Dr. Norman was a distinguished and honored graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) School of Pharmacy. His dedication to medicine and his passion for helping others led him to continue his studies at the MUSC School of Medicine, where he graduated with honors. Throughout his career, he combined deep medical expertise with genuine empathy, earning the admiration and trust of his patients and colleagues alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Norman was a visionary in health and wellness. He was the founder of the first running road races in Myrtle Beach, pioneering a movement toward an active lifestyle in the community. His commitment to wellness extended further with the creation of the Myrtle Beach Diet, which helped countless individuals lead healthier lives. Recognized for his contributions, he served on the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, advocating for a healthier future for South Carolinians.
While his achievements were remarkable, his greatest joy was his family. Dr. Norman adored his daughters, who were the light of his life. However, his five grandchildren—Reef, Koa, Sloane, Lyndie, and Gia—were his crowning glory. He cherished every moment with them, sharing his wisdom, humor, and boundless love.
Above all, he was a devoted husband and leaves behind his beloved wife and partner of over 45 years, Nan Nease Norman. Their enduring love was a testament to their deep bond, built on unwavering support, faith, and admiration for one another. Together, they created a life full of love, adventure, and cherished memories.
Dr. Norman was deeply loved and respected by his community, leaving behind an indelible mark on Myrtle Beach. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.
A celebration of his extraordinary life will be held on March 26th from 4-6pm at McMillan—Small Funeral Home at 910 67th Ave N, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
