Dorothy Lee R Huggins 92 of Myrtle Beach SC passed away on January 20,2025. She was born April 16,1932 in Augusta GA to Roy Cain Ramsey and Lily Evelina Mulcay Ramsey. The oldest of three children, she was predeceased by a brother Ronald Ramsey and a sister Betty Fakoury. She was married to the late Charles Bryan Huggins of Aynor, SC.
Dorothy was a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School and Winthrop College attaining a BA degree in education. She was an English teacher and taught at many of the military bases they lived on during Charles’s long career in the US Army. Her many travels, married to a career Army officer, included California, Germany, and Tehran, Iran where she taught at the Tehran American School. When they retired back to Myrtle Beach, Dorothy was a member of and volunteer at FUMC and also enjoyed her bridge and book clubs, and donating her time to many of the local charities. Her nickname was Dotty to her dear friends and “GMA Five” to her grands and later “GG’ to her great grandchildren. She loved her books, CNN, malted milk balls, heath bars and Wine in a Box, preferably “House White”. She was a “true Southern Girl” as a dear neighbor reminded us, with a quick wit and lots of advice that she gave out freely, especially to her children and grandchildren. She leaves with us a beautiful, wonderful, colorful, well lived life. We are the lucky ones to have known and loved her.
