Donald Moler Obituary

Mr. Donald Belt Moler, 94, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, at Embrace Hospice House. He was born on November 29, 1926, in Brunswick, Maryland to the late Archibald, and Leviah Pumphrey Moler.

Mr. Moler was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II in the Fleet Post Offices in San Francisco, CA, Honolulu, HI, and Yokosuka, Japan. He was a member of Ocean View Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, SC, and lifetime member of the Myrtle Beach Lodge #353. Prior to their relocation to Myrtle Beach, Don and his wife June were charter members of the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, DC. He retired in 1977 from the Office of the Postmaster General in Washington, DC where he managed the postage stamp program. Under his management, the non-denominated postage stamp was introduced, the first being the “A” stamp, and that implementation would later lead to the current “Forever” stamps. He was also instrumental in the introduction of the first self-stick postage stamps initially released as a 10-cent Christmas stamp in 1974.

In addition to his parents, Don Moler was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 59 years, June Nester Moler, formerly of Mt. Airy, NC. Additionally, he was predeceased by his brothers Maurice and Richard Moler, and their spouses; and his sisters Pauline Wilson, Lorraine Keller, and Charlotte Weet, and their spouses; as well as two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law Joe Bill and Sarah Anderson, Jerry Nester, and Sandra Nester all of Mt. Airy, NC.  He is survived by a sister Eleanor Cavanaugh of Elizabeth, CO, two brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Jackie Nester of Westfield, NC, Edward Nester of Mt. Airy, NC, and Shirlene Nester, also of Mt. Airy, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A private entombment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, where Don will be placed beside his wife, June. McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, SC (www.msfh.net) is in charge of arrangements.
