On May 19th, 2025, Dolores B. Bollinger (“Boots”), aged ninety, passed peacefully from this earth in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with her family by her side. Though leaving those behind in sorrow, she is joyously reunited with loved ones who predeceased her, including her husband, retired USAF Colonel William Bollinger (“Bill”), mother Margaret Blount, father Charlie Blount, brother Jimmy Blount, and nephew Kevin Blount.
Born in Conway, SC on July 15, 1934, Dolores was proud of her southern roots and heritage. She found her soulmate in Bill, an Air Force fighter pilot and decorated war veteran. They met at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base where she worked as a secretary, and he was stationed as a young officer. Married in 1960, they were together until Bill passed in 2024.
Dolores accompanied Bill on numerous assignments all over the world. In tandem they raised seven children: Joanne Edwards, Sylvia Gordon, Leone Bollinger, Aleta Bollinger, Regina Bollinger, Aric Bollinger, and Alison Bollinger. Brave and resilient, Dolores was often the sole caretaker of the household while Bill was in combat or otherwise deployed.
In addition to raising her large family, Dolores worked for many years as an executive secretary for high-ranking military officers. Always well respected and admired, Dolores was known for her work ethic and calm demeanor under challenging conditions. Dolores was an avid scholar, embracing ideas and concepts that were ahead of her time.
Never without a book, she instilled the joy of reading in her children. She was generous and kind, a trusted confidante, and a friend to all animals. She loved music and the arts; played the piano; and enjoyed dancing to songs by Neil Diamond, Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Doors. She could also be found in the pews of a local church, listening in rapture to a gospel choir. The departure of Dolores leaves a void that can never be filled. In consolation, the meaningful impact she had on so many lives can never be diminished.
In addition to her children and their spouses/partners (Sylvia/Steve Gordon, Regina/Robert Murray, Aric/Tatjana Strause, Alison/Keith Jennings), Dolores leaves behind her cherished brother Charles L. Blount and sister-in-law Scottie Blount; nephew Chip Blount; nieces Terry GriƯeth, Melody Potter, and Marcia McCracken; grandchildren Tara Edwards, Jessica Smith, Ashley Gordon, and Gabriella Gordon; and several great grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Myrtle Beach Manor and Gentiva Hospice for their compassion and care of Dolores in her final days.
