Deborah Ann Salan (nee Moses), 70, passed away Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at her home in Myrtle Beach.
Debbie was born to Alonzo Emerson Moses, Jr. and Billie June Moses in Big Spring, Texas on March 25, 1953. She and her family, which also included big sister Barbara, lived in Texas and Buffalo, New York until Debbie’s senior year of high school. She graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas before enrolling at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She earned a bachelor’s degree from TCU and was a member of the Horned Frogs’ NCAA swim team.
Debbie had five different careers during her wonderful lifetime. She worked as a computer programmer, an insurance adjuster, an insurance adjuster trainer and an insurance auditor before retiring in 2015 from her work as a Spanish teacher at Trinity Springs Middle School in Fort Worth. During her teenage years, Debbie also worked as a lifeguard and was a motor scooter ice cream vendor.
She had many hobbies and interests, including acting, cruising, jigsaw puzzles, poker, reading and scrapbooking. As an actress, Debbie starred in countless stage plays and worked as an extra in movies, music videos and television shows. Her extra work was highlighted by an appearance as a bar patron on the NBC sitcom “Cheers” where she met the entire cast of the show.
Debbie treasured spending time with family and friends. She was always the life of the party, and her quick wit could keep any room full of people rolling with laughter.
Debbie is survived by her husband Bruce Salan, her nephew Adam Hipp and her niece Krystal Lawrence.
A celebration of Debbie’s life will be held on Friday, August 25 at 3:30 PM at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, 910 67th Avenue N, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Leukemia And Lymphoma Society at https://www.lls.org Condolences may be directed to the tribute wall.
