Obituary

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of David L Baxley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left us peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 81. He was surrounded by the love of his family in his final moments.

David was born on January 8, 1944 in Chattanooga, TN. A devoted family man, he married the love of his life, Linda Baxley. Together, they built a beautiful life full of love, laughter, and shared memories. Their union was a testament to his unwavering commitment, and the bond they shared was a source of inspiration to all who knew them. As a father, Dave was a guiding light for his children—David Jr. (Kimberly Young), John (Vicki) and Diane (Michael). He was a constant presence in their lives, offering wisdom, support, and encouragement, always proud of their accomplishments and steadfast in his love for them. His legacy lives on through them, and the lessons he imparted will be cherished forever. As a grandfather, he was the epitome of patience, kindness, and fun. His grandchildren Nicole Johnson (Aubrey), Kyle Baxley, Alyssa Kane (David Owen), Shannon Skoglund (Steven), Joseph Kane (Tatum Trowbridge), Corey Baxley, and Brooke Baxley (Ryan Bollacker) will always remember the stories he told, the warmth of his embrace, and the twinkle in his eye when he shared in their joys. His great-grandchildren Maliah, Jaxon, and Jayla Johnson, and Quinn Skoglund will carry the fond memories of a man who lived a full and meaningful life, showing them the importance of family and love. Dave was known for his love of adventure and all his “toys”, (ie snowmobiles, motorcycles, go karts, etc.) He loved coaching his kids in baseball and softball, and enjoyed rehabbing old cars and those who spent time with him could always count on a witty remark or a good political debate. He had a heart that knew no bounds, and his generosity extended far beyond his family to all who were fortunate enough to know him. David was preceded in death by his mom, Harriette and his dad Albert, and his in-laws Albert and Agatha Goodness. He is survived by his wife Linda, his children David Jr., John and Diane, grandchildren Nicole, Kyle, Alyssa, Shannon, Joseph, Corey and Brooke, great-grandchildren Maliah, Jaxon, Jayla and Quinn, and brother and sister in law Richard and Barbara Goodness along with a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

A graveside service honoring David’s life will be held on March 31, 2025 at St. John’s Cemetery, Wallingford, CT, where family and friends will gather to remember and honor a man who made an indelible mark on everyone he met.

Rest in peace, David, “Daddy” “Papa”. You were loved more than words can express, and your memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
