Charles Daniel "Dan" Overholser, Jr.

Charles Daniel "Dan" Overholser, Jr., passed away on August 5, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Dr. Overholser was a proud graduate of Notre Dame and earned his doctorate from Indiana University. After graduating, he accepted a position at the University of Maryland and spent 29 years there until he retired in 2001. Dan served as the Department Chair of Oral Medicine. Не was a member of the Baltimore County Dental Association and both the Maryland State Board of Dentistry and the Arizona State Board of Dentistry. 

Dan was born in New Albany, IN, where he was raised. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Daniel Overholser, Sr. and Jayne Cureton Overholser, also his brother David Kent Overholser. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia "Pat" Overholser, his children James Overholser, Cindy Meagher Overholser (Brian) and one stepson, Dwayne Meadows (Mary). Нe was grandfather to seven grandchildren, Laura, Dwayne, Jr., Josh, Sophie, Aedan, Troy and Matthew and five great grandchildren, Piper, Jase, Owen Lily and Reagan.

Dan loved to travel, play golf, listen to classical music and spend time with his wife and family. He was most proud of his children all attending college and graduating. Education was most important to him. Dan was a member of the Ocean View Baptist Church, where he served on the Stewardship Committee. He loved studying and learning what the scriptures had to teach and was happy he was able to learn God's Word.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, 910 67th Avenue & Bypass 17, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM prior to the service. A private entombment will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC at a later time.
