Charles Franklin Neuhaus

Charles Franklin Neuhaus died July 26, 2021.  He was fortunate to leave this world peacefully in his sleep at home with his beloved Reni by his side.  Shortly before he passed, Charles was able to see his daughter Caroline and grandson Gavin.  He anxiously awaited this visit and was able to say goodbye one week before he passed.  Charles was born in Long Beach, CA, February 10, 1934, the only child of the late Charles E. Neuhaus and Helen Arnett Neuhaus.  He attended school in Ojai, CA, and graduated as Student Council President from Nordhoff High in 1951, and from Haverford College, Pennsylvania in 1955.

Charles was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1956.  He served in Naval Intelligence for 30 years, retiring with the rank of Captain in 1987.  He served tours of duty in Germany, Morocco, and Vietnam.  An expert on the Soviet military and clandestine collection, he was decorated with the Legion of Merit and five other meritorious awards plus the Combat Action Ribbon.  Since retirement he has remained active in history studies and classic cars.

Charles married his beloved Reni in 1981.  Next month, they would have been married for 40 very good years.  He is survived by Reni; his previous wife and mother of his four children, Joan; and his children and grandchildren: Suzanne Neuhaus and granddaughter Katelyn; Catherine Hansen and grandchildren Ashley and Jonathan; Charles “Ched” Neuhaus (deceased); and Caroline Wesley and grandson Gavin.  Charles is deeply missed by those who loved him and by Reni’s family and friends in Germany.

Capt. Neuhaus will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.  No local memorial service is planned.
