Born December 10, 1941, Charles Levon Allen of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away on May 23, 2026, after a 15 year journey with vascular dementia and other health issues. He was the son of the late Freeman and Claudia Allen of Cool Spring, SC. Three of his remaining sisters are Judy Edge of Cool Spring; Betty Sanders of Murrells Inlet; Ernestine Suggs Valyou of Cheraw. His sister, Jeanette Sanders, predeceased him. He was the husband of Sherrill Allen; Dad to Jason (Heather); Amy, and Scott (Kelly); Pop to Madelyn, Bella, Hunter, and Parker Allen; uncle to many nieces and nephews. Charlie graduated from University of South Carolina in 1964 and remained a loyal Gamecock fan. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach where he especially appreciated listening to the organ and piano music. Charlie’s passion for playing the piano continued until the end whether he was playing his daily “concerts” at home of 18 songs (by ear and from memory!), greeting everyone with their personalized “Happy Birthday” song, or playing for “the old folks” at MB Manor and other nursing facilities. For many years he worked at People Savings and Loan (now South State), owned The Odyssey Motel, built spec houses, bought Christy’s Restaurant, and later established a car business and worked with his two adult sons. Charlie was a dedicated family man who worked diligently but could also appreciate a relaxing dip in the ocean. Having been active in Jaycees and the Rotary in his younger years, his family, including his parents, was everything to him.
A memorial service will be held at First Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach on 9th Ave N on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 2 pm. The family will receive visitors from 1:00-1:45 pm in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to FMCMB Music or Missions Program.
