Catherine H. (Hood) Oliver

Catherine Hood Oliver passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on July 30th, 2025. Cathy was born on February 17, 1954, in Ruislip, England when her father was stationed there while serving in the USAF. After relocating to several states with her family, she graduated from Fairport High School in Fairport, NY and Rochester Dental Assistant School in Rochester, NY. She moved to Myrtle Beach, SC in October of 1972. Cathy was employed by Dr. Clarence (Sport) Saunders and Dr. Daryl Huffman for 20 years before joining the staff at Myrtle Beach Primary School as the Technology Assistant. She enjoyed teaching computer skills to kindergartners and first graders until her retirement in June 2015.
She was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Humphrey Hood and Retired Lt. Col. James Douglas Hood. She was predeceased by her brother Douglass James Hood.
Cathy's greatest love was her family, and she was so proud of all of them. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, William (Bill) McNeil Oliver, son William McNeil Oliver Jr (Rebecca), daughter Megan Oliver Sumner (Chad), grandson (Charles) and granddaughter (Charlotte), sisters Anne Hood Estrada (John) of California, Julia Kirby Hood (James) of Connecticut, brother Jay Robin Hood (Babs) of Myrtle Beach as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cathy enjoyed spending time traveling, boating with her husband, spending time on the beach, reading and enjoying family and friends. She served as a deacon and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach. Cathy lived a rich, full life of laughter, love, family and friends and will long be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach, 3810 Robert M. Grissom Parkway, Myrtle Beach, SC on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025. Visitation will be held at 9:45am with service at 11am.
