Carolyn Elaine Lerner (“Lyn”), formerly Carolyn Naumoff, of Myrtle Beach, SC passed away on February 25, 2025.
Lyn held an Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene from UNC and a Bachelor of Arts in Genetics from Chatham College. Lyn was born and raised in Charlotte, NC by Dr. Philip Naumoff and Esther Zuckerman Naumoff. She was a Dental Hygienist for 50 years in Pittsburgh, PA and Myrtle Beach.
Lyn is survived by her two children, daughter Melissa (Bryan) Jageman of Fairview, PA and son Alan (Marty) Lerner of Arlington, VA; and her five grandchildren, Hunter (Amy) Jageman of Pittsburgh, Garrett Jageman of Pittsburgh, Emma Jageman of Pittsburgh, Alexa Lerner of Arlington, and Nolan Lerner of Arlington.
Lyn was the oldest of five Naumoff children. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Naumoff of Carrboro, NC; her sister Elizabeth (Robert) McCarthy of Sarasota, FL; her sister Debbie Flynn of Charlotte; her brother-in-law Charles Flynn of Myrtle Beach; and seven loving nieces and nephews.
Lyn was preceded in death by her husband, Sy Lerner of Pittsburgh, her parents Philip and Esther Naumoff of Charlotte, her sister Susan Naumoff of Durham, NC; and her nephew Caleb Southern of Durham.
In her youth, Lyn was a tremendous swimmer, lifeguard, and instructor. As a mother, Lyn enabled her kids to experience every cultural opportunity in Pittsburgh, including national parks, museums, concerts, civic celebrations, and of course the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle master, mahjong player, and the family historian. She loved to travel across the U.S. and internationally and she attended every major life event for her family, immediate and extended. Lyn was an engaging and active member of her communities in the Pittsburgh area (McMurray, PA) and Myrtle Beach. She served on the League of Women Voters and the Jaycees in Pittsburgh, was the Oneg Shabbat Chairperson at Temple Emanu-El in Myrtle Beach, and was a patron of both the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Long Bay Symphony of Myrtle Beach.
Funeral services will be held at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach on Thursday, Feb 27, at 11 am.
A reception and service will follow at Temple Emanu-El. Lyn will be laid to rest in the Naumoff family plot at the Hebrew Cemetery of Greater Charlotte on Sunday, March 2, at 1 pm.
