Carole Ann (McGaughey) Young

Carole Ann (McGaughey) Young, age 78, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, passed away on June 12, 2026. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 8, 1947.

One of Carole’s favorite poems was “The Dash”by Linda Elilis, which reflects on how we spend our time in that dash between our date of birth and the date of our passing. Carole’s dash was defined by hard-work, discipline, creativity, a fun-loving nature, and devotion to family and friends.

She dedicated her professional life to early childhood education, serving as the director of a KinderCare in Louisville, Kentucky, two different child care programs in LaPorte, Indiana, as well as running a home daycare. This is where she could let her playful, creative side shine.

She lit up around young children and truly enjoyed nurturing their development and supporting their families.

Outside of work, Carole loved being on the water- visits to the lake at Doe Valley, speedboating and skiing on Pine Lake, houseboat vacations with friends, enjoying the ocean views in Myrtle Beach, just lounging by the pool-even a recent cruise. When Carole reached her fifties she joined in the antics and adventures of her local Red Hat Society with great enthusiasm and was nominated Queen Bee. She was an avid card player, joining in regular sessions with her bridge and euchre clubs over the years, countless evenings of different card games around the kitchen table at home, and in recent years a love of Mexican Train which she played with friends in her neighborhood. Another favorite hobby of hers was crafting - especially things she could enjoy with friends like scrapbooking nights, make and take workshops, and attending local arts & crafts fairs. She loved to shop and especially loved searching for “treasures” in consignment shops and yard sales.

She had a generous spirit, seen in activities like volunteering in the church nursery at Salem Chapel, knitting prayer shawls for those need, serving on the scholarship committee of a local women’s organization, and just having a kind word or compliment for strangers.

Carole was preceded in death by her fiance, Delbert Taylor,; her husband, Millard “Ron” Young;; her parents, Harry and Shirley “Chene” McGaughey; her brother, Steve McGaughey; and her sister, Brenda “Joy” Markolf (Bill).

The poet Rumi said, “Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation.” Those left behind to hold her in their hearts are her daughter, Bethany Cornelison; her daughter, Lisa Bohlin (Mike); her three grandchildren, Ben Bohlin, Holly Bohlin (Christian Houser) and Samantha Bohlin; her brother, Gary McGaughey (Jamie); her nephews, Beau Markolf (Victoria) ,Scott McGaughey (Alison) and Sean McGaughey; her nieces, Sarah Lamb, Karen Cook (Tom), Brittany Ponder (Ken) ,and Emileigh McGaughey (Ross Smith); many great-nieces/nephews; plus countless extended family and friends.
