Obituary

Bonita Louise Kimbel Wood, age 76 of Myrtle Beach, SC, died peacefully in her home the
morning of Friday 11/22/2024. After a long battle with COPD and other respiratory
complications, she was looking forward to being absent from the body and present with the Lord.
Boni (pronounced Bonnie) was born in Pittsburgh, PA in September 1948 to Robert (Bud)
Kimbel & Thelma (Lee) Hopf Kimbel. The second born of four children, Boni grew up as the
only girl amongst three brothers. Upon graduating from high school Boni joined the Navy where
she earned the position of Aircraft Maintenance Controller. A proud veteran, Boni served during
the Viet Nam era and always considered it her honor to do so. Later in life, she was more than
grateful for all of the support she received as a retired veteran.
Following her naval career Boni married and started a family. While doing so she also pursued a
degree in Criminal Justice. In 1983 she and her husband Dale moved the family to Myrtle Beach
where they made many lifelong friends as the proprietors of the popular local’s watering hole
Logan’s Lounge on Kings Highway. Some years later she was able to put that degree to good use
serving with the Horry County Police Department for nearly a decade (including and throughout
the devastation of Hurricane Hugo in 1989).
In her latter years she moved to a senior community in Surfside Beach. Here she enjoyed the
retirement life of parties, games, live entertainment and the graduation of Happy Hour from
5:00pm to 3:00pm! Even during her most difficult days she would appear at Happy Hour if it
was on the calendar.
Boni is predeceased by her husband E. Dale Wood, both parents and her youngest brother
Michael Kimbel. She is survived by siblings Wayne Kimbel (Margie) and Donny Kimbel, and
her four daughters Shannon Sherman (Jeff), Karen Mogul (Kevin), Terri Miller (Johnny) and
Kirsten Spicer, and several grand- and great-grand children.
Over the course of her life, Boni impacted scores of people with her positive outlook and her
child-at-heart whimsy. She enjoyed laughter, being an avid Steelers fan, being a strong support
for her family & friends and being involved in the Church. She will be missed by many.

Boni’s family would like to humbly apologize for the tardiness of this announcement.
