Betty Jo Dye

Obituary

   Betty Jo Dye, age 94, died peacefully at Embrace Hospice in Myrtle Beach, SC on April 12, 2021 after living what she would say, was “a blessed life”.

   Born in St. Louis, MO on September 7, 1926 to Opal and Alex Sobo (deceased), Betty graduated from Beaumont High School in 1944.  After high school, Betty sang professionally with swing bands in St. Louis until she married Thomas E. Dye (deceased 2012 after 64 years of marriage) in 1947.  While raising 8 children, she was an avid reader and enjoyed golf, tennis, Bridge, card games; and a long-time greeter volunteer at St. Andrew Catholic Church. 

    She has 8 surviving children: Denise Whittaker and husband Gary, Cathy Kaplan and husband Paul, Pat O’Shea and husband Mike, Tom Dye Jr. and wife Kathy, Mike Dye and wife Ellen, Christine Dye, David Dye and wife Cindy, and John Dye and wife Rose; 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews and 12 grand-nieces and nephews from brother Bob Sobo (and wife Kay) and deceased brother Bill Sobo;

   Betty was blessed her entire life with good health, loving husband, family, and friends; and she will be deeply missed by all.

   A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 11am at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Myrtle Beach, SC with a private inurnment immediately following at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach. 

   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Embrace Hospice House, Myrtle Beach, SC; Homestead Hospice, Myrtle Beach, SC; and/or Myrtle Beach Manor, Myrtle Beach, SC.
