Betty Marye Creed, 96, formerly of Mayfield, Kentucky, died Friday, November 20, 2020, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, after contracting COVID-19. She was hospitalized on November 11, 2020.
Betty was born May 27, 1924 in Mayfield, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Creed, to whom she was married for over 43 years, and her parents, Clyde and Bertha Payne.
Betty was well known for her kindness, smile, laughter, honesty, work ethic, and wonderful sense of humor. She worked for many years at Stone’s Drug Store in Mayfield, where she met her husband Charles, who had an ownership interest and worked as a pharmacist for 40 years. She previously worked at Anderson’s Clothing Store in Mayfield for many years.
Betty loved Mayfield and her life there. She was a long-term member of First Baptist Church, where she taught the Senior Girls’ High School Sunday School class for many years in the 1960s and 1970s.
She loved her family very much. She treasured family times and gatherings. For many years before Charles died, she helped him coordinate vacations with both his children and her children and their families with fun times at Destin, FL, Orange Beach, AL, the mountains of East Tennessee, and Myrtle Beach, SC. She especially loved Myrtle Beach, where she and Charles travelled frequently since her daughter and her family lived there, and where she re-located after his death.
Betty is survived by her daughter Micki Sisson of Myrtle Beach, SC, her son David Marye (Mariana) of Lexington, KY, and her stepdaughters Calista Joyce (Barry) of Jackson, TN, and Rebecca Graham (Chris) of Jeffersonville, IN, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the Mayfield-Graves County Animal Shelter, 500 N. 12th Street, Mayfield, KY 42066, Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach, 291 Ronald McNair Blvd., Myrtle Beach, SC 29579, or the charity of your choice.
