Betty Ann Turner Benton, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 8, 2020. She was born December 22, 1934, in Pamplico, South Carolina to the late Richard Turner and Nellie Mae (Hyman) Turner.
She and her parents moved to Myrtle Beach in 1944. She was a 1952 graduate of Myrtle Beach High School and went on the earn her Bachelor’s degree at Coker College. On August 13, 1954, she married her late husband of 63 years, Bobby Horry Benton.
Bobby and Betty built, owned, and operated the Palm Crest Motel in Myrtle Beach for 44 years. Betty was very active in her church, molding young lives and teaching bible studies. When she retired in 2004, she devoted her spare time to Back Pack Buddies, a nonprofit organization that supplies economically disadvantaged children with food on the weekends in Horry County.
She is survived by her two daughters, Tara Marie Benton and Scarlett Ann Wetherington (Augustus), and a granddaughter, Ashlyn Marie DeKleva.
Graveside Services are to be held at Ocean Woods Cemetery, 2408 South Kings HIghway, Myrtle Beach, SC, Thursday, November 19, 2020, at 2:00 PM.
