Obituary

Aurie Louise Gosnell Richardson, 82, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026.

Aurie Lou was born on March 14, 1943, in Walterboro, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Lawrence E. Gosnell, Sr. and Elizabeth Mace Gosnell. She grew up in Conway, South Carolina, where she was known as a local beauty queen and fondly remembered by classmates as “one of the prettiest ladies to graduate from Conway High School.” Throughout her life, she was admired for her vibrant personality, sharp sense of humor, love of shagging, and signature fashion sense that turned heads even in her final days.

Professionally, Aurie Lou worked in accounting for several businesses, including Rick Hendrick Honda, Love Chevrolet, and Nexsen Pruet, a prominent law firm in Columbia, South Carolina. After retiring, she continued to serve her community as a substitute teacher, a role she enjoyed deeply.

Aurie Lou was a woman of strong faith and a devoted lover of God. She was a long-time member of St. David Lutheran Church in West Columbia, South Carolina. Her greatest legacy was her fierce love and selfless care for her family – including the Alford and Dooley families, who were lifelong friends and cherished as family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carlyn “Carla” Elizabeth Dooley; her sister, Patricia Gosnell Russell; and her brothers, Lawrence "Larry" E. Gosnell, Jr. and William “Bill” J. Gosnell.

She is survived by her son, Gig Richardson; grandchildren Brianne Shealy (Zach), Thomas Dooley (Leah), Elizabeth Richardson, Amber Richardson, Walker Richardson, and Tanner Richardson; great-grandchildren Carlyn and Lawson Shealy, Haven and Barrett Smith, and Scarlett and Summer Richardson; sisters-in-law Judi Gosnell and Connie Gosnell; and her great-nieces Emiline and Addison Trowbridge, whom she lovingly called her “little angels and nurses,” and with whom she lived for the last eight years of her life. She is also survived by many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be 1:00 PM, Sunday, February 15, 2026, at St. David Lutheran Church at 132 St. David's Church Road West Columbia, SC 29170.

The family will receive friends at 12:15 PM, prior to the services.
