Arlene Godbold Obituary

Arlene B. Godbold, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday, November 12, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Clyde Godbold, in 2005. They were happily married for almost 50 years.
Arlene was born in Florence, S.C., July 2, 1934 to Nena Mae Carter. Walter Courtney and Virgie Dudney, her Uncle and Aunt, raised her as their own and she loved them all very much. She always felt blessed to have 2 mothers. She graduated from McClenegan High School in Florence and business school.
In the early 1950’s, Arlene and her parents moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. where they would vacation often. She then met her husband, Clyde, while working at Chaplin Co. in downtown Myrtle Beach. They were married Easter Sunday, April 10, 1955, at First United Methodist Church after the Easter service. The entire congregation stayed for the wedding as they said their vows of love!
Arlene loved our Lord, Jesus Christ, with all of her heart! She lead by example teaching her 5 children and 10 grandchildren to always place God first, love and care for your family, if you have nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all and always lend a helping hand to those in need. She loved the University of South Carolina, especially spending time with her family on the weekends cheering on the Gamecock football team. When her husband became ill, she took care of him for 18 years at home until his passing. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, S.C. where she enjoyed her Sunday School Class and volunteering at the church Thrift Store after her husband passed. When she could no longer attend church in person she would watch every Sunday morning on television. She loved her family very much and they meant everything to her always wanting to know what their next endeavor was. She was the BEST MOM EVER and there will never be another one like her. Heaven has gained the most Beautiful Angel! Fly high, Mom. We love you so. Until we see you again.
Survivors include children: Dr. Sarah Godbold-Machowski ( Dr. Walter Machowski), Cheryl Locke (Michael), Debbie Ropp, Clyde Godbold, Jr.(Wynn), Walter Godbold (Lisa). Grandchildren: Walter Machowski, III, Dr. Mary Machowski, Katie Machowski, Cherie Cebreiros(Nic Patton), Clay Ropp, Cameron Bayley(Josh), Matthew Godbold (Courtney), Cooper Godbold, Emily Godbold, and Ross Godbold. She also had 3 great-grandchildren who she dearly loved, her brother, Robert Carter(Jo), and her niece, Joyce Bedell(Jim).
The family would like to thank all of the doctors who took care of her for so many years, especially Dr. Neil Trask. We would also like to thank the many caregivers from Home Instead who helped the family keep her comfortable at home especially Destiny, Audrey, and JJ whom she loved.
