Antonio (Tony) Rosario Maturi, Sr, of Bristol, Rhode Island, died unexpectedly on May 18th, 2022 at 11:38pm. He was 80 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death. Anyone who knew Tony, knew him for his fierce love of life. He was full of joy, a trait that was obvious to all after even just a single meeting with Tony.
Tony was born on February, 26th, 1942. He attended Colt High School in Rhode Island. After graduating high school, Antonio began his extensive career in the United States Navy. He served in the Vietnam, Cuban Missile Crisis, and Desert Storm conflicts. After 28 years in the Navy and 2 years in the Airforce, he retired as a Chief Medical Corpman attached to the Seabees Construction Batalion and attended college to pursue a career as a surgical nurse. He retired from Togus Veterans’ Administration after 31 years before moving to Myrtle Beach, SC.
Tony Maturi is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jeannie Mae (Corkum) Maturi, his three sons, Peter Maturi (wife: Suzanne), Christopher Maturi, and Antonio Maturi (wife: Aimee); his beloved granddaughters, Neve Harp Maturi and Adelise Maturi; one grandson, August Maturi; his two sisters, Joan Maturi Prenda and Patsy Maturi Bullock, and an abundance of friends. He was predeceased by his father, Peter Maturi, and mother, Eva Motta Maturi; his two other sisters, Annette Maturi Murphy and Marie Maturi Dellaire. We will miss him more than words can say.
In addition to being an avid bowler, Tony was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Maine as a Grand Knight and District Deputy. Tony’s passions included charity work with Little Wanderers, Battered Wives Home, and acting as a substitute teacher in the local public schools. Tony also loved the time he spent as a Boy Scout Leader with Troop 891 in Myrtle Beach, where he got to enjoy his favorite pastimes of hunting, fishing, and camping. He spent as much of his free time loving his grandchildren. Tony was also a big Patriots fan and lover of sports. He has left a huge hole in our hearts and will be truly missed.
