Annie “Blue Mema” Wilson Owens, 90, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 at her home. Born March 09, 1930 in Murrells Inlet, SC, she was a daughter of the late Len Conway and Ida (Strickland) Wilson. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her son, Kerry Neil Owens; former husband, Oscar Leon Owens; siblings, Alberta Wilson Leigh, Etta Wilson West, Robert Alton Wilson, Leila Wilson McCall, Virginia Wilson Richards, Elmon E. Wilson, C. Elbert Wilson, Marvalee Wilson Weir.
After her family Annies next love was her church and choir. Loving her God, she was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She started working for AVX Corporation when she was 16, and when her family moved to Houston, TX, she was an interior designer for Montgomery Ward. For many years she was an accomplished seamstress with Belk Department Store and Dixie Stampede in Myrtle Beach. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was known for her country cooking. Annie had a passion for painting, gardening and singing.
Survivors include her two children, Donna O. Stack (John), Kim Booth (Murrell); daughter-in-law Gwen Smith Owens; four grandchildren, Richard S. Herring, II (Kim), Christy H. Johnson (Jamie), Lauren Owens, Addison Owens (Suzi); seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer E. Rush, Trenton S. Chestnut, Bradley W. Chestnut (Caitlin), Richard “Scotty” Herring, III, Ava R. Herring, Donna Isabella Herring, Josselyn Herring; four great-great-grandchildren, Hunter M. Tindall, Emma G. Tindall, Layla E. Rush, Jasper H. Jordan.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, Myrtle Beach, SC. Reverend Bruce Crawford and Dr. Wayne Brown will officiate. Arrangements are being coordinated by McMillan-Small Funeral Home, Myrtle Beach, SC.
