Anna Carr, a fearless visionary who refused to see limits left us on March 22, 2026, at the age of 80. Every encounter with her was marked by warmth, love, and genuine kindness; felt by all in her presence. To be seen by her was to be loved. Anna’s vocabulary didn’t include the word ‘friend’; to her, everyone was family. Her legacy is one of boundless compassion and infectious charm.
Born in Newton Grove, NC, on June 9, 1945, Anna was a spirited and determined woman who found joy in reading, writing, photography, and travel. She and Fred spent many cherished years escaping to their beloved beach home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. There, she delighted in long cocktail hours with her Summerhouse family, walked miles along Ocean Boulevard, and endured more than a few unfinished home projects. Myrtle Beach would later become the place they chose to retire.
When she wasn’t at the coast, Anna fully embodied the role of homemaker. She took great pride in hosting large family holiday gatherings, preparing meals with love, and thoughtfully decorating her Chapel Hill home, creating a space where everyone felt welcome.
Anna, affectionately known as “Mary Anna” or “Granny Anna”, is survived by her son, Josh Carr, granddaughters, Delilah Portillo and Kiera Mudge, along with Kiera's husband, Ryan Mudge, “great-grands”, Odyn Portillo, Ryan Mudge Jr, and Mamie Jane Mudge. Additionally, Anna is survived by her sister, Kathy Nicholson, of Cary, North Carolina.
Anna was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Fred Carr, her son, Jacob Carr, and her brothers, Robert “Bobby” Warren and Edward Warren.
Her memory will live on through those who knew and loved her, guiding their hearts and shaping their lives. While she is no longer physically with us, the impact she made endures in the moments we remember, the wisdom she shared, and the kindness we continue in her honor.
Celebration of life details are forthcoming.
