Albert Paul “Albie” Wendler, age 77, passed away on May 1, 2026. Born on July 25, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Al lived a life defined by dedication to family, faith, education, and service to others.
A devoted Christian, Al’s faith in God was the foundation of his life. He was a faithful member of First Methodist Church, where he found strength, purpose, and fellowship. His beliefs were not only something he spoke of, but something he lived out daily—through kindness, humility, and a deep commitment to helping others. Whether in quiet moments of encouragement or in his advocacy for children, Al reflected Christ’s love in both word and action. Al had a lifelong passion for music. He attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College, where he majored in piano, and later continued his studies in piano performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Music remained an important part of his life.
Al spent many years as a high school English teacher, shaping the lives of countless students at Socastee High School and St. James High School. He had a deep love for literature and a gift for encouraging young people to think critically and express themselves. Beyond the classroom, he served as a Guardian ad Litem, tirelessly advocating for children and always going the extra mile to ensure their voices were heard and their well-being protected.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Eve Wendler, his brother Paul Wendler and his beloved wife, Loraine Gregory Wendler.
Albie is survived by his stepchildren, Jamie G. Eagerton (Donald) and James C. Gregory (Janice); his grandchildren, Thomas Eagerton (Elizabeth), Matthew Eagerton (Breanna), and Rebecca Eagerton; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Jesse, Lincoln, and Eleanore Eagerton.
Al will be remembered for his compassion, his steady presence, and his unwavering commitment to helping others—especially children in need. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched as a teacher, advocate, and devoted family man.
A memorial service will be held on June 20 at First Methodist Church, where he was a faithful member.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church Handbell Fund.
