Betty Mills Brown
Betty Mills Brown, 82, passed away peacefully at home December 12, 2017, after a short illness surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born July 15, 1935, in Socastee, SC, to the late Jesse Benjamin Mills & Maude (Macklen) Mills and was the youngest of eight children. Betty was a graduate of Socastee High School and married her high school sweetheart Garrett C. Brown on June 17, 1950. They raised and nurtured three children together that she loved dearly, Deedy, Gary and Michelle.
Betty & Garrett owned and operated two small family motels in Myrtle Beach from 1963-1980, The Sea Foam and The Oceanic; she was a homemaker later in life. Betty was an avid tennis player and also enjoyed painting with her many friends. She enjoyed sewing and quilting with her mother and sisters and was also known to wet a line occasionally and catch a fish. Her love of all animals was immense, especially her three K9 companions April, Amber & Buddy and of course all of her backyard birds and squirrels she enjoyed feeding daily for years.
Betty was predeceased by her parents Jesse & Maude Mills, brothers, Jesse Clarence Mills & William Arthur Mills; sisters, Alice Marlowe, Edna Oliver & Oneta Wilson; and in-laws OG & Flora Brown.
She leaves behind her husband & caregiver of 67 years, Garrett Brown. Three children Deedy Drew (Richard), Michelle Brown (Heidi) and Gary Brown (Debbie) all of Myrtle Beach.
Four grandchildren; Richie Drew (Lixia), Meredith Drew Redd (Greg), Grayson Brown (Abby) and Joseph Brown (Annah Kate). Nine great-grandchildren; Kennedy, Richie III, Sarah-Blake, Christopher, Jase, Caroline, Yezi, Daylee and Benjamin. Her brother, James Mills, her sister, Madge Tyner and* many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at McMillian Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, Friday, December 15, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
A service to celebrate her life and her homecoming will be held at McMillan Small Funeral Home on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Thomas Brittain, Sr. Burial will follow at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
