James K. Sumner

James Kenneth “J.K.” Sumner, 94, died at his home on December 1, 2018.

Born February 13, 1924 in Bat Cave, NC.  He was the son of the late Ruth Duvall and Grady Raymond Sumner, Sr.

He proudly served his country during WWII as a bomber pilot having flown 65 missions in the European Theatre.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee and the University of South Carolina, he was retired from teaching at the Woodland Park School at the former MBAFB.

He was predeceased by his love, Irene, after 61 years of marriage.  He is survived by his daughter, Lucyanne and his four legged child, Emma.  He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews who knew him as “Uncle Bud.”

A family memorial service will be held in the spring in Bat Cave, NC which to him was the center of the universe.

Please accept my sincere condolence. May you find comfort through the Word of God. “He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces…” Isa 25:8. This promise will be accomplished by means of God’s Kingdom or government with His son Jesus Christ ruling as king (Dan 2:44).
