Isla Mae Gaffney, 90, died Friday, November 23, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Ms. Gaffney was on born March 5, 1928 in Cameron, S.C., the daughter of the late James Evans and Mildred Kent Poston Dantzler.
She was a graduate of Columbia College and taught in Dade County, Florida and in Myrtle Beach schools. She was also co-owner of the Murphys Motel for many years. She was a long-time member of St. Philip Lutheran Church and the Archibald Rutledge Club.
She was married to the late Arthur Edward “Ted” Murphy, Jr., and is survived by their children, Mary Kent Murphy Nichols and husband Tom, of Myrtle Beach, Sara “Sally” Murphy Wiessner and her husband Doug of Red Bluff, California, the Reverend Arthur Edward Murphy, III and his wife Kathy Patrick of Houston, Texas, and James Jonathan Murphy and his wife Sherry of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren Christopher Lee Wiessner, Jason Ross Wiessner, Sara Kathryn Wiessner Tanucci, Jennifer Kent Nichols, Heather Brooke Nichols Brown and her husband Brandon, Connor Patrick Murphy, Dylan Patrick Murphy, Joseph Andrew McKinney, and Kylie Morgan McKinney; great grandchildren Brett Lee Ihrig and John Joshua Tanucci; and her many special friends in the Spring Forest community where she lived. Her second husband, James Joseph Gaffney, predeceased her.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 6200 N. Kings Highway, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., with Pastor Jason Lee officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. A private family burial will follow at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery.
