Helen Baker Johnson, age 102, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 3, 1916 to Mary Helen and James T. Baker. Helen graduated from the Packer Institute, Brooklyn, NY and attended Connecticut College (For Women). She was the widow of Reinhold “Ray” Johnson and also preceded in death by her son, Russell and two grandchildren.
Helen worked for the New York Ordinance Department and Stone & Webster in New York City. After marrying Ray in 1947, they moved to New Jersey where Helen was an active community volunteer and then retired to Myrtle Beach SC in 1972. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Helen was an active walker, reader, bridge player, NY Times crossword fan, and had “fun” on the golf course.
Helen is survived by her two daughters Barbara Benson of Gurnee IL and Nancy Rollings and her husband Tim of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The family will received friends from 10:00-11:00 AM, Friday, February 1, 2019 at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Southern Palms Memorial Gardens at 11:30 AM.
