Helen Gesiotto

Helen Gesiotto

Helen McGurl Gesiotto, Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2020 at Grand Strand Medical Center, surrounded by her family.    She was born in Blakeley, PA to Pauline and Bernard McGurl on August 4, 1941.  Her husband, Quinto Gesiotto, passed away in 2000.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, John, and her sister, Mary.

She is survived by her children Michael Gesiotto and his wife, Laura, of Bealeton, VA and her daughter Carol Buckanavage and husband, Rob, of Mint Hill, NC.  Her four grandchildren, Quinn, Sydney, Brendon, and Meredith were the apples of her eye.

Prior to moving to Myrtle Beach Helen was a resident of Springfield, Virginia where she resided for more than 50 years.    She resided in the Cresswind of Myrtle Beach for the past five years.  She was very active in her community and made many friends, especially the crew on Birchwood Circle.  She was an avid Washington Redskin fan and never missed a Yankee baseball game.

Helen loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with family and friends.  She especially liked cruising.  In her free time, she enjoyed thrift store shopping and was especially good at finding the “diamond in the rough”.  She enjoyed coloring and never said no to a good game of Rumikub.  Helen lived her life filled with adventure and a zest for living and we will miss her every day.  Our hearts are broken but our memories of her will forever keep her close to us.

Interment will take place on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 at 1:30 PM at Fairfax Memorial Park, 4401 Burke Station Dr., Fairfax, VA 22032, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception at 2:30 PM at Brion's Grill, 10621 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA 22032.

Mrs. Gesiotto was a kind and gracious lady - she always made us feel welcome and always cared about our families and lives. I admired her quietly independent and adventurous spirit. She will be missed. Much love to Carol, Michael, and their families.

Jim and I lucked out having Helen as our next door neighbor. We will miss sitting on her porch talking and laughing! She was kind of heart and soul...and a little bit stubborn. Our deepest sympathies to her family, which are now a part of the Birchwood Family! Save us a place at the table Helen, until we meet again.
