Dixie Dare Hartnett passed away on November 22, 2019 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born in Lewistown, Il. to Fern Rochester Dare and Charles Everett Dare. Dixie and her sister Sherry (deceased) travelled with their parents throughout the U.S., as did so many families during the depression years, while their father looked for work. Finally, Dixie settled in Maryland where she met and married Albin Hartnett (deceased) in 1958, and became stepmother to his children.
Dixie and Al relocated to North Myrtle Beach in 1972 where they spent their golden years. During that time Dixie devoted a good deal of her time to establishing the North Myrtle Beach Humane Society.
She is survived by her stepson James Hartnett and stepdaughter Alice Ward of Maryland, stepdaughter Judith Morgan and her husband Ron of Atlanta, granddaughters Ryan Morgan Williams, Devon Morgan McKenna, Caytie Hartnett Mayn and Elizabeth Hartnett, six great grandchildren, and her nieces Terry Fusco Kinsey of Virginia and Toni Fusco Pessagno of Virginia.
A memorial service honoring Dixie will take place at King of Glory Lutheran church in N. Myrtle Beach at 11:00 am on Friday, Dec. 13. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be sent to The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, 409 Bay St., N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29582 or King of Glory Lutheran Church, 805 11th Ave. N, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29582
