Carolyn Renee James

Carolyn Renee James

Carolyn Renee’ James of Myrtle Beach died Friday, January 4, 2019, at Grand Strand Hospital surrounded by her loving family and many friends.  Renee’ was a devout member of First Free Will Baptist Church.  She loved her savior, Jesus Christ, most of all.   She invited all she met to join her at church to worship Him.

Renee’, daughter of Sherwood Holmes and Adell Anderson Cox was born Horry County and chose to live her life in Myrtle Beach.   She was the devoted wife of Dale Edwin “Hank” James for more than forty years.  You rarely saw one without the other. You just saw Hank and Renee’.  Hank would say “She loved him most.”  She was the dedicated mother to her one daughter, Kimberly Renee’ Hucks Lawrence (son-in-law Randy Lawrence).  Kimberly would say “She loved her most.” She was the doting Meme to her two grandsons James-Bradley Schuyler Lawrence and John-Randall Sterling Lawrence.  Schuyler and Sterling often asked her which she loved the most because each knew it was him.  Terry Gause (wife Pam) and family Tara, Derrick, Reagan and Amy along with Sissy Underwood (husband Earl) called her Aunt Renee’ while Alex and Lexi Underwood called her Aunt Ne’ne.

She was predeceased by her father, Sherwood Holmes, mother, Adell Anderson Cox, stepfather, Henry Cox, sister, ReAnn Collins, and nephew Gary “Buddy” Gause.

Renee’ worked much of her adult life in retail and finance before becoming involved in the family business built by her father at the Apache Motel and continued in the motel industry at the Mystic Sea Resort.  She was often characterized as a hardworking, independent lady.

Renee’s success in business and life was due to her unmatched ability to befriend a total stranger.  She has too many dear friends to list but if you asked any one of them, they would say she was the best friend.  Surely, she loved them most.  She had a way of making you feel “most important!”  She will be missed by all.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Snipes officiating.  Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Conway, SC.
