Anne Mary Kouis, 90, formerly of Myrtle Beach, died Saturday, May 4, 2019 in Phoenix. She was born March 9, 1929 in Camden, NJ, daughter of the late Jordan and Julia (Samolada) Coste.
Anne was a member of the Board of the Howard Eales Insurance Agency in Washington, D.C. and a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of her beloved church, St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church.
Mom was our safe harbor. She was steadfast in her love for her family, and was a loyal friend. Mom was a good listener, and made you feel that you had all of her attention as she listened to you. Her responses were kind, thoughtful, and measured.
Mom loved opera, and would translate their stories as we listened to the radio on Saturdays. And she taught me to love the theatre. Above all, she loved to read, and we shared many books over the years and had wonderful discussions.
She had a successful career in insurance, and was a member of the Insurance Women’s Association, which allowed her to travel all over the US and make many friends within her profession. She was devoted to our dad, the love of her life, and took good care of him all of his life. She loved and respected my husband, Felix, and he had only high praise for her.
She loved her church and her beloved Philoptochos, and her faith in the Lord was unwavering. We thank the Lord for the time we had with her. It has been a joy and a blessing.
Survivors include her son, Pano; daughter, Julie; grandchildren, Demetrio, David, Katina, & Patrick; and great-grandchildren, Miriam and Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Pano Kouis.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, May 10, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, with burial to follow at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday at McMillan-Small Funeral Home, with a Trisagion Service at 6:30.
