Eileen Catherine Shupe

Eileen Catherine Shupe, age 84, a resident of Myrtle Beach, passed away on January 1st, 2019 surrounded by family after suffering a severe stroke.

Eileen Catherine McLaughlin was born on February 25th, 1934 in Union, NJ to Joe & Helen (Hallgring) McLaughlin. She grew up in Florham Park, NJ in a large family. Eileen was a beloved sister to her brothers Joe, Ray & Tom, and her sisters Peggy Larney, Helen Keenan and Irene Dolan. She married on May 4th, 1957 to Navy Sailor Don Mack Shupe of Fresno, California. They were happily married for over 61 years. They had six children during their time together, Cynthia Cougle, Eric Shupe, Donna McMullin, Lisa Terrill, Doreen Van Ooyen and Don C. Shupe.  Their grandchildren include Chari Lynn Habuda, Edward Habuda III, Steven Habuda, Johnny Cougle, Kevin McMullin, Jacquie Nine, Jessica McMullin, Tara McMullin, Britnee Terrill, TC Terrill, Connor Van Ooyen, Cody Van Ooyen, Kris Van Ooyen, Don (CJ) Shupe Jr., Brendan Shupe and Andrew Shupe. She also has 10 great-grandchildren.

Eileen, a devout catholic, made raising her family the priority in her life. She dedicated herself to fulfilling the needs of all her children and when she could, her grand-children. Mom was the athletic type growing up and became an avid sports fan. She would often brag to us how good she was on the basketball court. She loved to spend time at the fields. She spent many long hours at the fields with her husband as he coached various sports teams early in their marriage. Then later in life, she enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in all types of sports. Always the critic, she let her feelings about the play and the coaching be known to all around her. She did not like to be on the losing team.

Mom was a quick wit, always ready to put her two cents in wherever she felt it needed to be. She was just as quick with a kind word, a hug and a kiss. Mom will be greatly missed. She was the center of our family and the keeper of our hearts.

Services will be held on Friday, January 4th in Myrtle Beach, SC. The visitation will be held at McMillan-Small Funeral Home from 10:30 – 11:30 AM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 503-37th Ave. North, Myrtle Beach. She will be laid to rest at Oceans Wood Memorial Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed and should be sent to the funeral home. Donations can also be made on her behalf to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org.

In disbelief and with heavy hearts, we received the news today of this incredibly special woman’s passing. Eileen and her husband Don started coming to visit us at Jersey Bagels so many years ago that she decided to “adopt” Kevin as her son and me as her daughter-in-law, so we called her “Mom”. She was friendly, funny, and “full of spit & vinegar”. Her rosy cheeks, lovely disposition and loving hugs & kisses will be with us always as we remember her with love. Our sincere condolences to Don and the entire family. Our thoughts, prayers, strength and love are with you all. Rest In Peace, “Mom”, we’ll miss you”. xoxox

Eileen was a great lady and will be missed. I remember her and pops coming to every baseball game rooting on not only their grandsons, but their son Don as the coach as well. It didn't matter how cold it was or how hot it was... They were there. A great person all around. Peace be with you Eileen. Praying for the Shuppe family. Love, the Orlando's.
