Willard Randall (Randy) Nichols, 77, passed away at his home in Myrtle Beach on March 13, 2024. He was born March 7, 1947 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Willard Albert and Odette Hardin Nichols.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen, and his beloved Shetland Sheepdogs, Ruby and Penny. Randy graduated from Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 1965. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science at the University of South Carolina in 1969. He served in the United States Army Corps of Combat Engineers from 1969 – 1971. Randy graduated cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1974 where he served as survey editor of the Law Review and was a member of Wig and Robe, a legal honor society.
Randy began his legal career at the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C. where he became Chief of the Cable Bureau. He moved to the private sector as General Counsel of Communications Satellite Corporation. From there he moved to Goodlife TV where he was General Counsel. He ended his legal career as President and General Counsel of American Public Communications Counsel in Alexandria, Virginia.
Randy was an avid golfer and member of the Dunes Golf and Beach Club where he played with the Sandbaggers. The family gives special thanks to his devoted caregivers during his long illness – Richelle Wilkinson, Jeremy Reynolds, and Kirkland Hinds.
Memorial services will be held at noon on Friday, March 22nd, at McMillan-Small Funeral Home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Sandbaggers from the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or Grand Strand Humane Society.
