Robert Gray Holland, Jr., 47, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away March 24, 2024, Palm Sunday, He was preceded in death by his sister (Katrina Holland) and grandparents, James and Margaret Holland of Richmond, Virginia. He is survived by his parents, Robert G. Holland Sr. and Allyne S. Holland, his sister Kristina Holland (daughter, Zoey), and his beloved children Hannah, Grayson, and Brooks Holland. “Bobby,” as he was known by his legions of friends and fans, was a supremely talented baseball player in school and college who devoted his life thereafter to helping young people learn and relish the sport as much as he did. During his 16 years as General Manager of The Ripken Experience/Myrtle Beach, he helped that complex of baseball fields modeled after Major-League ones develop into one of leading youth sports complexes in the world. Later, he organized tournaments up and down the East Coast for Triple Crown Sports. Bobby was a stellar sidearm pitcher for Douglas S. Freeman High School in Henrico County, VA, and then as a reliable reliever for Old Dominion University. In sports management on the pro level, he began with the Richmond Braves and then had a successful run as GM of the Potomac Nationals. Few who met Bobby did not regard him as friend in addition to baseball ambassador. His family and friends will forever miss his lively spirit, dedication, and sense of fun.
There will be a celebration of life held in May, details to come.
